Hexstatic vermelden: To celebrate the launch of Street Fighter IV, the latest instalment in one of the most successful fighting game series of all time, video games giant Capcom has made available for the first time the original, fully-mastered vocal, FX and music samples taken from the cult classic Street Fighter II, enabling DJs and producers access to cut, scratch, remix and re-edit these classic parts to their hearts content.

Why Street Fighter II? Released in 1991 Street Fighter II became the must-have fighting game for the SNES, literally smashing all competition in its path with its two-player and arcade modes, making this one of the most successful games of its time. Back for 2009 Street Fighter IV sees the game return to a similar style of the cult classic Street Fighter II. Featuring new characters, moves and combos and rendered in glorious 3D, Street Fighter IV will be the return of the legend!

Pioneering audio-visual artists Hexstatic have been given the green light to take this cult classic to pieces and deliver a killer AV mash up in their own inimitable style. With over a decade at the forefront of audio-visual entertainment Hexstatic’s AV work has seen them collaborate with artists such as Coldcut, Gamebreaker, Kris Menace, Si Begg and DJ Kentaro. Mashing up the kung-fu brilliance of their classic Ninja Tune video with the 8-Bit flavour of Street Fighter II Hexstatic deliver a unique take on this cult classic.

2001 mischten sich die englischen Ninja Tune-Chefs Coldcut mit ihrer “Guilty Party” in den Parlamentswahlkampf ein. Ihr Wahlwerbespot hatte die Form eines krachigen elektrorockigen Musikvideos, gespickt mit Video-Samples, zentral Blairs “The lunatics have taken over the asylum“.

2004 schloss man sich mit dem “TV Sheriff” zusammen und legte ein Update zur US-Wahl nach.

Kurz vor knapp schiesst man nun auch mit einem neuen Clip Richtung Repblican Party. Nicht so brilliant wie weiland zur eigenen Wahl, was wohl auch dem Umstand geschuldet sein dürfte, dass hier nicht Hexstatic sondern wieder TV Sheriff für´s Visuelle verantwortlich zeichnet. Ein Stakkato von Politikerstatements statt wohlfeil gewählter Samples. Der den Angriff auf die Ohren ausweitende Rock-Drum&Bass-Hybrid stammt im übrigen von den Qemists.

Die beiden Herren halten für eine Stunde beim höher, schneller und weiter einmal inne und widmen sich ausgiebigst den Anfängen. Geschmeidiger Soul und a bisserl Disco cremt beim “Evemix” die Lauscher ein. Tracklist hab ich leider keine gefunden. Wird nachgereicht, sobald auffindbar.
